So this month I can't give much away as we have decided to make Wednesday a "Technical Challenge Competition" workshop, with all cards made being entered for our Summer competition. This is in place of our usual Summer competition, normally judged at Village Day.
This year our judge will be on hand to demonstrate techniques and ideas then you will interpret the ideas according to the brief and create your own card. The winner will win back their membership and there will be crafty prizes for the runner up. All I will say is that the technique involves working with Promarkers. If you do have your own Promarkers or equivalent you are welcome to bring them, but please make sure each pen is marked with your initials or some other form of identifying who it belongs to.
See you on Wednesday - happy colouring!

May workshop: Bokeh (doesn't rhyme with May) and Kay (does rhyme with May)!
Looks like you all had fun at the last workshop - some great card designs. See below for bokeh technique and follow the link to find out more on how to do it. I've looked up the pronunciation and it seems it's not pronounced "bow kay" (to rhyme with May) or "bow kuh" (to rhyme with huh), but "bow ke" (like the start of kettle). So now that's settled let's look at the pictures!
And a very diverse range of paper collage designs produced too. Thanks Kay (rhymes with May) for your demo and photography.
Don't forget to have your say (rhymes with May!) and email me your top THREE choices from the selection of 3D challenge cards pictured below. Votes will be counted and the winner of the free workshop will be the card with the most votes. (In the event of a tie we will look at the number of 1st, 2nd, 3rd votes etc.)

Ink and Paper Collages
It's the end of the month already and the next workshop is fast approaching. As it is half term please let us know if you are not able to attend this month as we know a few of you may be away (have to put my hand up here too!) Michelle and Kay will be demoing two different types of collage this month.
Michelle will be showing you how to do a collage inking technique to create a background, known as "bokeh". Originally a photography term, Wikipedia defines "bokeh" as follows:
- In photography, bokeh (Originally /ˈboʊkɛ/, /ˈboʊkeɪ/ BOH-kay — also sometimes pronounced as /ˈboʊkə/ BOH-kə, Japanese: [boke]) is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. Bokeh has been defined as "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light".
Kay will be showing you how to create paper collage designs using cut outs or torn paper from old magazines. (Be careful how you position your punches when cutting out from magazines though ;-) !!)
Don't forget that your 3D celebration card challenge entries are due in this month too.
With regard to the Summer competition that we normally run and have judged at Village Day - don't panic! You haven't missed anything and you don't need to prepare this year. We have decided that we are going to do something a little different! Inspired by our "Great British Make-off Awards" we have decided to do our own version of a "Technical Challenge". So you will receive your instructions (demo) and your competition entry will be made and judged during our June workshop so we can look at the whole process and see how you interpret the techniques. We also want to encourage everyone to participate. The winner will still win back their membership and the runners up will win crafty prizes. More details will be revealed soon...

Pleased as punch
At this month's workshop we will be looking at different ways of using punches and die cuts to help us get a head start for Village Day on June 13th. It will be a good opportunity to make cards for occasions other than birthdays - new baby, graduation, new home etc - we always try to make sure we have every occasion covered on the stall on Village Day!
As well as the usual cards of course we will also be showing you some ideas for making gift items to sell or give away to your friends - post it keyrings, bookmarks, sweetie gifts and of course the list wouldn't be complete without Michelle's exploding handbags!!!
And the results are in for last month's challenge. To be announced on Wednesday!!
